Submissions


Each panel will be subdivided into sessions of 4 speakers (lasting a total of 120 minutes).
Each participant will have a maximum of 20 minutes for presenting his/her paper and 10 minutes for discussion.

Designed to showcase global contemporary semiotic thought and research, the 16th World Congress of the IASS-AIS, entitled "Signs and Realities", aligns with the IASS-AIS' 55-year strong mission to promote global connections, dialogue and cooperation in semiotic studies and to encourage inclusion of various semiotic theories and research directions.


STEP 1: Call for panel proposals


1 October – 31 December 2023 CLOSED


Panel proposals should be submitted through the specified online form which can be accessed via the button below. They should include:
  1. Name/Affiliation/e-mail of convenor(s), Title, Abstract (200-300 words) and Keywords (up to 5).
  2. One participant may submit, convene or co-convene only two panels.
  3. All convenors are expected to register and to pay the Congress registration fee, in accordance with the provisions applying to all participants in the Congress scientific programme. 
  4. All convenors, along with all participants in the Congress, will need to pay the membership fee for the IASS-AIS at the point of registration.
  5. All panel proposals should be in English to ensure maximum accessibility by potential participants, but can also be presented in any of the other official languages of the IASS-AIS. 
  6. Panel convenors are responsible for selecting the most appropriate papers – in terms of both subject and rigour - for their panels, from amongst those that are going to be submitted to them during the following STEP 2. 
  7. Panels should include at least 4 papers, including the convenor(s)’s paper(s).
Panel proposals will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee and Programme Committee. Panel convenors will receive the final decision on their panel evaluation via e-mail from the Organizing Committee by 15 January 2024. The decision may consist of ‘accept’, ‘recommendations for minor changes’, ‘recommendations for merging with another similar panel’ or outright ‘rejection’. After their approval, panel proposals will be listed HERE.

STEP 2 - Call for paper abstracts


20 January 2024 – 31 March 2024

  1. The presenting author has to pre-register first before submitting the Abstract. 
  2. Participants should submit their abstracts through the specified online form. Abstracts submission deadline is 31 March 2024.
  3. All abstracts should be submitted in English.
  4. Abstract should be submitted to the topic / panel of the author's choice.
  5. Both cases require abstracts to include the following: name, affiliation, e-mail, title, abstract (200-250 words), and keywords (up to 5).
  6. Abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee, Programme Committee and panel convenor(s).
  7. Abstracts acceptance letters will be sent by 30 April 2024.
  8. Thematically-related panels/sessions will be arranged by the Organizing Committee based on papers submitted separately from specific panel calls.
